Last week was an interesting one with Sony a7RV rumors, new lenses, and much more. Here’s the best news I’ve selected for “The Photography News Show”!
Sony a7RV Rumors

It seems like there’s been a leak for the technical specs of the Sony a7RV, which will be the new high-resolution camera from Sony.
The latest rumors come from Photo Rumors, where they suggest that the Sony A7R5 will feature:
- 61 Megapixel sensor
- Real-time tracking eye focus for birds/animals/people
- 10fps continuous shooting,
- 5.5 stop image stabilization
- 759 points phase-detect AutoFocus
Surprisingly, it looks like it’ll be a beast for videos too. In fact, it’s suggested that it’ll shoot up to 8K at 24p in full-frame oversampling.
Price-wise, it should launch at 3500 US dollars, which is the same price the Sony A7R4 had at its launch.
Talking about 8K, we have other news!
DJI Mavic 3 Pro Rumors
A supposedly trusted source reported to DroneDJ that the DJI Mavic 3 Pro will be the first consumer drone capable of shooting 8K video. I don’t know if that’s true, but it would be kinda awesome!
The drone should be launched by the end of summer, so we just have to wait a few months to find out.
In the meantime, you can get the DJI Mavic 2 Pro, or the new DJI Mavic Air 2S.
Sony a7R3A & Sony a7R4A Released
Back in April, Sony announced two “new” cameras; the Sony a7R3A and the a7R4A.
They basically are an improved version, respectively, of the Sony a7R3 and a7R4.
So, what’s new?
- The LCD screen now has 60% more pixels than the previous version, and it appears to have improved in terms of colors too.
- The Sony logo that we’re used to seeing at the bottom of the back screen is now gone, which I believe makes the design sleeker.
- Connectivity has been improved, as they both support USB 3.2 Gen 1, which can reach up to 5 Gigabits per second.
Nothing revolutionary, but I appreciate these “marginal gains”, because, at the end of the day, they are what create real change in the long run.
Pre-orders open on May 17th, and shipping starts on June 4th.
TTArtisan 90mm F1.25 Released
The TTartisan 90mm F1.25 it’s a fully manual lens, very bright, and comes at $770.
It has a Leica M-mount, but you can easily use it on other mirrorless cameras with the right adapter like this one.
A lens like this is a great choice for controlled portrait sessions where you’re looking for a dreamy look, or for lifestyle shots. Manual focus makes things a bit slower, but you will get a beautiful bokeh and an interesting look.
It also features a very smart lens cap that can be converted into a lens hood, which is something that other brands should take inspiration from!
Vazen 50mm T2.1 1.8X Anamorphic Lens Released
The other new lens released this week is the Vazen 50mm T2.1 1.8X Anamorphic Lens. Being an anamorphic lens, it’s mainly designed for filmmakers, but it can be interesting for photographers too.
Coming at $8,000.00 it’s quite an expensive lens, but it’s a good price for that multiplication factor. While if you just want to try out an anamorphic lens without having to spend so much money, you can take a look at Sirui’s anamorphic lenses, which start at $700.
Zhiyun-Tech Smooth-Q3 Gimbal Released
This week Zhiyun launched their Smooth-Q3 Smartphone Gimbal with a 4300K integrated fill light.
It also works with their app to do all sorts of tracking, smart follow, dolly zoom, etc
It comes at $89 and it can be a great choice if you want to start out with some mobile videography.
